Exciting news hot off the press!
We emailed Wahaca this morning with some picures showing how our chiles are getting on to see if they could tell us what type of chiles we are growing. Loyal readers will recall that we were given some chile seeds when we ate at Wahaca which we have since planted and lovingly nurtured...
Then, to our delight an email arrived from none other than the Queen of Wahaca herself... Thomasina Miers. The legend who won Master Chef! Without going into massive detail...
"They look like jalapeno from the round, wide stem...these were seeds we were giving out before Christmas. If you planted them since them, they'll be serrano chillies which are smaller and thinner...they look like jalapenos to me but you could do the taste test. Serranos should be a little hotter and have a grassier, more citrus flavour."
Wow! This is some of the most exciting news we have ever had. Thomasina even offered us the chance to write a feature for Wahaca's next newsletter!
Thank you Thomasina! We'll be round soon for that shot of tequila you mentioned!

:) Awesome plant! I walked by Wahaca en route to a lunchtime concert at St. Martin-in-the-Fields on Monday and thought of you two. BTW, I've wondered why she didn't call the restaurant after the original spelling: Oaxaca? It may be more troublesome to figure out how to pronounce, but it looks cooler!

Hey Susana... I remember someone trying to explain to me that Wahaca is the phonetic prounciation of Oaxaca. It reminds me of "Breaking into Tesco" with the girl who was trying to sell Quinoa salad which is pronounced Keenwah. I have since seened "Keenway" on the shelves as well as quinoa.
It seems wrong to bastardise words but in some situations it probably makes sense.
Wahaca is very cool and Cowie and I are looking forward to going again soon... hopefully we'll be able to have a drink with Thomasina!
Cheers

Hello, I'm the girl who was on the tesco programme. When began to cook full time with quinoa, I needed a company name. This was harder than i thought it would be to be honest.
But after running a little market stall selling quinoa salads for a little while now, I have learnt that as long as I have some available info for customers about the grain, there is hopefully understanding of what we are about.
Hi Floating Head...
I saw you on that TV show - Breaking into Tesco and thought you were robbed. That guy's soup thing was a bit crap.
How's it all going?
These look so much better than my Wahaca chillies! Maybe they need a bigger pot...
